Pathways

Pathways refers to the path or direction that students will take after they leave school. Considerable time and resources are spent to ensure students make wise choices regarding their pathways to further education, training or employment. We are proud of our Pathways program and the positive effect it has on our students' ability to make informed decisions about their future.

Students from years 7 to 12 have a Career Action Plan (CAP) which is coordinated by expert school personnel. CAPs help students identify and develop worthwhile career goals, and select subjects which will maximise their opportunities both at, and beyond school.

Macleod College offers both a VCE pathway for students aspiring to further their education at university, as well as a successful VCE-VM pathway for students aiming to enter the workforce in their chosen industry. Each of these pathways can be enriched by the selection of a VET subject that delivers a qualification that is recognised by the Australian TAFE system.

Morrisby at Year 9

The Morrisby career tool is offered to all Year 9 students through the My Career Insights program. The Morrisby career tool helps the students identify their strengths, explore career paths, and plan their future. With parental consent, students complete quizzes to create a personalised profile, which is followed by a one-on-one consultation with a career expert. These insights are used to develop a tailored career action plan and profile which are accessable to students. The qualified Morrisby staff provide expert support to guide students in making informed career decisions.

Panel interview at Year 10

Students in Year 10, along with their parents, have an interview with a panel of teachers to assist them in identifying their educational pathway. They discuss the options available to students based on their interests, aptitudes, and what they would like to do after school.

VCE

VCE offers students an educational pathway that will provide them with an ATAR score, necessary for entry into universities in Australia. At Macleod College, VCE is the main stream which is undertaken by students. We have a wide variety of subjects on offer, and our students achieve good results in their chosen courses. For more information on VCE courses, please see the Year 10-12 Senior School Course Handbook

VCE/VM

VCE/VM offers students an educational pathway that provides them with a Year 12 pass and Certificate 3 in their chosen VET program. Students that undertake VCE/VM can also enrol in University however this is usually done via TAFE.

Vocactional Education & Training (VET)

Vocational Education & Training (VET) helps students gain practical skills while earning a TAFE qualification. VET provides hands-on experience, industry-specific skills, and nationally recognised qualifications that can lead to jobs, apprenticeships, or further study. VET suits students who prefer practical learning over traditional textbook based learning and helps build confidence, teamwork, and problem solving skills. By combining school-based learning with industry training, VET gives students a head start in their careers, making them job-ready and opening future opportunities.
