Transition from Grade 6 to Year 7

Moving from Grade 6 to Year 7 brings a whole host of new experiences and emotions for students. In order to make that transition as smooth and pleasant as possible, we have a transition timetable, bringing our new Year 7 students into the Macleod College environment as a staged process.

Our transition program starts with a two-day orientation in December of the Grade 6 year, which includes:

  • Meeting the Principal and Home Group teachers,

  • Ice breaker activities,

  • Taster classes,

  • Parent breakfast for Year 7 parents with the Principal team,

  • A scavenger hunt around the College.

At the beginning of term 1, Year 7 students have a two-day transition program that includes:

  • Year 7 Assembly with their Student Manager,

  • Rock & Water activities as part of the Wellbeing Program,

  • Organisation workshops,

  • Study skills workshops,

  • Year 7 and Year 11 Buddy Breakfast.

Throughout semester 1, we have activities that are geared towards assisting our Year 7 students with settling into their new environment. These include:

  • Camp information night and social meet and greet BBQ; a chance to meet your child’s teachers and have a friendly chat,

  • Three-day Year 7 Camp at Valley Homestead,

  • Year level sports program,

  • Whole school Swimming and Athletics Carnivals,

  • Homework Club,

  • Subject based excursions like the Melbourne Museum and IMAX for Humanities,

  • Orienteering Program at Westerfolds Park,

  • Images of Greatness culminating performance afternoon,

  • Ancient World culminating performance afternoon.
