Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

eLearning refers to a broad range of activities that involve the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to support and enhance learning.
eLearning is also about innovation. It is about the tools we use today, but also the tools we cannot yet imagine.
Computers are an integral part of eLearning. Macleod College has a fully networked environment of Personal Computers (PC) and Apple Macintosh (Mac) Computers. Students are exposed to a full range of software on the Windows and Macintosh environments. As a result, they are able to adapt to different learning technologies with ease using our excellent facilites.

• Three PC laboratories. Creative use of timetabling allows for any class to book into these rooms.
• Seventy-five Mac Mini’s in the IMPACT centre. This is driving changes and improvements in teaching and learning at Macleod College. It is being used as the tool to initiate changes to content, pedagogy and the use of ICT. It enables teaches to introduce innovative teaching approaches, engaging students in deeper, meaningful learning.
• One MAC laboratory in the Visual Arts area and ten Mac’s in the Multimedia area. This reflects the use of Apple Macintosh computers and software in the graphic arts industry.
• Twenty-eight PC’S in the primary area arranged in Pods allowing for students to engage in collaborative learning.
• A fully resourced Library with twenty PC’s. Students are able to use the facility flexibly before and after school and during lunchtime.
• Five Mac’s in the Music area
• A mini lab of twelve PC’s in the Mathematics Centre

eLearning is about innovation. It is about the tools we use today, but also the tools we cannot yet imagine - which we will be using tomorrow. Within a context of constant innovation and change, we take seriously our responsibility to explore, research and extend the effective use of innovative ICT.

eLearning at Macleod College

eLearning refers to a broad range of activities that involve the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to support and enhance learning. It includes the effective use of digital resources and learning tools, collaboration with colleagues and mentors in other locations, the experience of a virtual environment and access to online courses from home or within the community. It has the potential to provide learning content and with other learners in an interactive manner, and to realise their full potential educationally and personally.
eLearning is also about innovation. It is about the tools we use today, but also the tools we cannot yet imagine - which we will be using tomorrow. Within a context of constant innovation and change, we have a responsibility to explore, research and extend the effective use of innovative ICT to support the development of authentic, new learning environments for all learners - at all stages of schooling.
eLearning:

• Allows for engaged, collaborative learning.
• Enables learners to access environments, tools and resources - including other learners - at their own pace, in their own time and from wherever they might be.
• Empowers learners with responsibility for their own learning experience.
• Acts as a catalyst for authentic, meaningful learning experiences.
• Offers powerful new possibilities for teacher professional development, student engagement and meaningful school/community integration.
